On 13 October more than 40 members of Creekside WI gathered in their finery at the Lakeside Hotel in Wootton to mark the occasion of their 50th birthday with a celebration lunch. The fizz and chatter flowed as the photographer from ‘The County Press’ marshalled everyone for the official photographs.
Creekside ladies were delighted to welcome two founder members, Olive Lailey and Mavis Willis, along with Federation Chairman Sue Biss as special guests. Two other founder members of Creekside who are still current members, Pat Kendall and Mona Williams, were unable to attend.
Lady Toastmaster Chris Rickards kept the timings on track as the guests, President Dorothy Maskell, past Presidents Rosalind Eavis, Maureen Turner and Jennifer Goodall and the current committee were announced as they proceeded into the function room. A lovely lunch was served whilst enjoying beautiful views overlooking Wootton Creek. Afterwards the founder members cut a cake specially created for the occasion with scenes from a range of Creekside activities including kurling, rambling, book club, crafts, country dancing, games and ten pin bowling. The cake had been made by a member of Yarmouth WI who made a special birthday cake for Prince Edward. A presentation of photographs and documents from Creekside’s archives ran on screen whilst the party took coffee, a reminder of all kinds of events enjoyed over the years.
A wonderful commemorative menu card had been created as a keepsake for everyone. Our thanks for this go to Simone Rose. Marlene Cassidy made the stunning table centres which were given to the past Presidents and Chris, the Lady Toastmaster. Bouquets were presented to the guests and everyone eventually made their way home, trying not to think about the calories and reflecting on many happy memories of 50 years of fun and friendship. Well done to Linda Sheasby for arranging such a successful occasion.
