No grey, rainy day blues for some members of Creekside WI because we’ve enjoyed another great afternoon of kurling at Wootton Methodist Church hall. This time members of the Church and WI members played in mixed teams aiming for the bull. Lots of ‘Oooooos and ‘Aaaaaashs’, claps and groans until half time. While we enjoyed tea, coffee, cake and biscuits we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Hazel, who regularly delivers the ‘coup de gras’ on the last slide of the stones. Then back to play and more laughs. Thanks Jenny Goodall for the organisation, see you again next month.
What could be nicer than a delicious warming supper followed by an exciting game of Kurling? This week, on a windy, drizzly evening, members of Creekside WI enjoyed meeting members from Whitwell WI for some healthy competition. We got to know each other over cottage pie, peaches and ice cream, then tables were removed, chairs pushed back and we kurled until coffee/tea time. There was plenty of cheering and even more when teams pushed each other off the bull. Tension mounted as the evening came to an end. Who won? BLUE TEAM. ‘Congratulations!’
Thank you Jenny Gaches and members of the committee who helped to make it such an enjoyable evening. Maybe we can have a return match soon.
On a very hot July evening Ann Parker welcomed 14 members from Waterside WI who joined us for a fun evening of food and Kurling. Jenny Gaches did us proud again, having spent a hot afternoon in her kitchen cooking a selection of Quiches, these were then plated up by committee members and served with salad and new potatoes, followed by strawberries and ice-cream.
Tables cleared and folded away, battle then commenced between the two teams, a mix of Waterside and Creekside members in each, Red and Blue, well that is the colour of the pucks , we like to keep it simple, every picture tells a story as you will see from the photographs.. Yes the Blue Team won 13 points to Reds 5, but Reds had the last laugh, landing a bulls eye on the last shot of the match, but alas was too late for victory. Did ‘sweeping’ make a difference…..no that was for fun.
Waterside thanked us and everyone agreed that it had been a lovely evening and helped take our minds off feeling the heat.

This Wednesday evening, although a beautiful evening, three members attended to play Kurling. What a happy time we had. Played eight ends with a tea break in the middle and the final score had only two points between 1st and 3rd. There are very few opportunities to play Kurling and so we are very lucky. The evenings combined with supper are very successful but we would encourage more Creekside members to come and have fun even when we don’t have the usual WI activity – food!!

Let battle commence! Rookley WI enjoyed yet another delicious meal with Creekside WI followed by a very competitive kurling session. Some players were given lots of encouragement and others sabotaged through distraction before making their slide. A huge ‘Thank-you’ again to Jenny Gaches and WI helpers for the most yummy cottage pie and apple crumble and to all those who made it such a fun filled evening.
Creekside WI are at it again, Kurling with a visiting WI that is! Seaview WI came to Creekside WI for a ‘ fun’ kurling competition. During a delicious supper, cooked by Jenny Gaches with help from members of the committee, the ladies spent time getting to know each other. Then kurling stones to the ready! Seaview members had a quick try out to test their skills then the two opponents dug deep, cheering winning points scored. Thanks were given by our President Ann Parker, to everyone who contributed to make it a very enjoyable evening.
