Clash of the Kurling Titans

Headon Hill WI came for another competitive evening of food and fun last night. ‘Thank you.’ yet again to our wonderful chef, Jenny who gave us a delicious meal before the main event. Then it was laughter all the way punctuated with plenty of booing, cheering, clapping, clever manoeuvring of the stones and a short burst of ‘We are the champions.’ Well done Margaret Harris for scoring so well for the blues. Congratulations to Chris Tipple for clearing the bull while scoring for the blues.

Thanks to Linda for washing up the tea cups and finally ….CONGRATULATIONS! To the reds, champions of the evening with 10 points to 5. Thanks for a great night

Fun in House!

Members of Creekside WI enjoyed Kurling ‘in house’. Even though on this occasion we didn’t have a visiting WI, we enjoyed our usual yummy cottage pie followed by apple, sultana and cinnamon crumble ( with a crispy crumble top) and custard. Blue team were in the lead for most of the evening but after the break for refreshments and variation of approach i.e. Under chair push, left hand push or on your knees push, red team gained some extra vavavoom and pipped blue team at the post. Well done!

Thanks to everyone who made it a lovely evening, great food, plenty of chat and a bit of exercise. ‘Thank you!’ especially to our chef, Jenny Gâches and our President who modelled the ‘ on your knees approach’. Over the last year we have really enjoyed meeting members from different WI’s at our Kurling evenings, so if your WI would like to join us you would be made very welcome

Kurling Match ~ May

Creekside and Rookley WI’s enjoyed another evening of raucous laughter and friendly competition again this week. Jenny Gaches and team produced yet another delicious meal i.e. three flavours of tasty quiche with salad and new potatoes followed by crispy apple crumble and custard or ice cream.
Once the tables were removed and chairs pushed back the ladies got down to the really important part of the evening. There was plenty of cheers, clapping advice and encouragement as well as groans. Congratulations to the red team.
Thanks for coming ladies, it was another super evening. Come again soon.
Our very best wishes go to the lovely lady who had a fall. We hope you have a very speedy recovery.

Tuesday Kurling Meeting

No grey, rainy day blues for some members of Creekside WI because we’ve enjoyed another great afternoon of kurling at Wootton Methodist Church hall. This time members of the Church and WI members played in mixed teams aiming for the bull. Lots of ‘Oooooos and ‘Aaaaaashs’, claps and groans until half time. While we enjoyed tea, coffee, cake and biscuits we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Hazel, who regularly delivers the ‘coup de gras’ on the last slide of the stones. Then back to play and more laughs. Thanks Jenny Goodall for the organisation, see you again next month.

Kurling: Creekside v Whitell WI

What could be nicer than a delicious warming supper followed by an exciting game of Kurling? This week, on a windy, drizzly evening, members of Creekside WI enjoyed meeting members from Whitwell WI for some healthy competition. We got to know each other over cottage pie, peaches and ice cream, then tables were removed, chairs pushed back and we kurled until coffee/tea time. There was plenty of cheering and even more when teams pushed each other off the bull. Tension mounted as the evening came to an end. Who won? BLUE TEAM. ‘Congratulations!’
Thank you Jenny Gaches and members of the committee who helped to make it such an enjoyable evening. Maybe we can have a return match soon.

Keen Kurlers are at it again

Another lively afternoon for Creekside WI members. There was friendly banter, skill-full knock offs and a close win. Tea and biscuits at half time greased the stones as the tables turned. The Red team won this time! Wait till the rematch when the blue team will give you a run for your money.
